2023 Winter Conference

Thursday, February 23, 2023

Gateway Center, Ames, IA

8:30 am - 12:30 pm

This newly renamed event (formerly Directors/Supervisors Meeting) will offer fantastic trainings through the SNF LEAD to Succeed initiative, a training program designed specifically for school nutrition professionals. Working with professors from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, SNF has developed these trainings specifically to address the professional and workforce development needs of school nutrition professionals in the areas of Personnel Management and Communication, Marketing, and Customer Service. Our Winter Conference will feature two of these trainings outlined below.

Your Conflict Style Inventory (1 hour)
Conflict is common in the workplace and is something many of us look to avoid but having the proper tools to deal with conflict can make all the difference when it eventually arises. This 1-hour training explores five different conflict management styles and how each is used to approach difficult conversations with coworkers and/or stakeholders. This training will provide participants with effective tools to approach conflict in the workplace to achieve more positive outcomes.
Professional Standards code: 3410 Dealing with Difficult People and Personnel Management
How are Your Listening Habits? (1 hour)
Listening is a critical component to effective communication. This 1-hour training explores participants’ listening habits and provides tools and techniques to help improve conversations in the workplace. Specifically, participants will learn about the four levels of communication and will explore the productive listening learning model to improve their personal listening habits.
Professional Standards code: 4140 Interpersonal Skills

Following these fantastic trainings, SNAI President-Elect Coni Dobbels will help you take this training further with more insights and tools into conflict managment and communications tools. Coni has extensive experience presenting on these topics and will bring it all together.

We will also have updates on SNAI meetings & initiatives, including an update from the Legislative Committee on their incredible work this year and the focus of their planned trips to the Hill in early March. And representatives from the USDA will be on hand to give you any updates they may have. Then you can take a short walk down the hall to the food show presented by the USDA. (Separate registration is required for the USDA food show.)
